Recently President Obama vowed recently to keep battling for unlawful immigrants in spite of measures by members of the Republican party and some federal officials to see to it that his executive orders stayed unaligned.
“I’m going to keep doing everything I can to make our immigration system more just and more fair,” Obama said in his weekly address a few days ago.
The President stated that he took action a few months ago to infuse the border with more resources for security and to open up the legal immigration framework by bringing unlawful immigrants “out of the shadows”. He said that some folks were still fighting against those actions, and he was one of the few who would keep fighting for them. He said that
“Some folks are still fighting against these actions,” he said. “I’m going to keep fighting for them.
Because the law is on our side. It’s the right thing to do. And it will make America stronger.” The House leaders of the Republican party were criticized by Obama for not allowing a vote on a Senate-passed immigration bill from 2013. “For nearly two years, Republican leaders in the House have refused to even allow a vote on it,” he said.
The members of the public were invited by the President to share their or their families’ stories of immigration on the White House website. Obama remembered how his family too belonged to a family of immigrants.
