• Mexican underage immigrant children continue to cross the American border illegally even after being caught several times
  • 11-Aug

Of the 11,000 Mexican minors who have tried to cross the border illegally into the US, only 2,700 children were detained for the first time. According to the Pew Research Center report, nearly three- quarters of the children have been caught trying to cross the border illegally more than once. Nearly 15% of these would-be migrants were detained by immigration authorities and deported at least six times.

Even though Mexican minors are deported almost immediately when compared with Central American children, still they go ahead to cross the border as most of these migrants are males in their late teens, whereas Central Americans come in all ages with girls tending to be on the  higher side. Moreover, Central America is far off, and crossing over the second time is not an easy task.

Even after being deported a number of times, these children still make it to US border solely because of poverty and increased violence. Many of these young children are coming from border states like Tamaulipas, Sonora, Oaxaca, Guerrero, Guanajuato, and Michoacán.
