Addressing to the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute last week, President Obama promised that he will continue to fight for effective immigration reform for the nation.
An Immigration bill was introduced in the senate by Gang of Eight members in April 2013 that was passed with 68-32 votes. However, it was stalled in the Congress as it was never brought for voting. Republicans opposed it thoroughly and called it “Awful”.
‘if anybody wants to know where my heart is or whether I want to have this fight, let me put those questions to rest right now: I am not going to give up this fight until it gets done.’ He said in his speech.
Pressure to take some concrete steps is increasing on Obama from Hispanic groups, who he disappointed last month by delaying immigration reform via special presidential executive action until after the November mid-term elections.
‘I know there’s deep frustration in many communities around the country right now, and I understand that frustration because I share it.’ He added.
Immigration is such a key issue right now and Republicans will get advantage of it. However, Latinos and other ethnic groups share the view of Democrats over immigration.
