Snowbirds (people coming into the USA from Canada or vice versa) need to be more cautious while entering and leaving their respective countries now as the US Customs and Border Protection has come up with a new tool that tracks the number of days a person is staying in and out of the country.
Earlier both US and Canada were able to track only the entry of the person in to the country but things have changed with the new tool; it gives a complete report of person’s whereabouts. This emphasizes the need for snowbirds to keep their own detailed report of the number of days being spent across the borders of the US and Canada.
The tool has eased the tracking system considerably; both countries can now share the information with each other. Individuals too can now request for the report and compare the tracking with the border’s record to rule out any errors, before potentially being denied entry back into the US for having surpassed the allotted number of days, by giving details of their passport number, full name, and birth date.
A person surpassing his stay by more than six months in the US will be needing a viable immigration visa to continue to stay in the US.
With the growing flow of illegal immigrants’ especially unaccompanied children exerting tremendous pressure on President Obama the administration has requested an $3.7 billion emergency fund from Congress, for free legal service, children care and to provide food services for growing number of immigrants.
As per Department of Justice, more than 375,370 immigration cases are pending across the country; on average it takes 439 days to resolve an immigrant case as per the TRAC analysis. If GOP funds are given as per the lawyers’ request, then many illegal’s immigrants will be benefitted to win the green card, giving them access to permanent residency that will cover the social and welfare programs, including Obamacare.
Juan P. Osuna, Senate homeland security panel director, of the Immigration court system said the government would add and relocate immigration judges to focus on recently arrived children and families, whose cases would be prioritized. The administration would add around 40 immigration judges; among them 25 would be new and 15 temporary judges would be appointed at a cost of $45.4 million.

Senator Charles Schumer along with seven members of the “Gang of Eight”, a bipartisan group of US Senators wrote and negotiated the bill S.744, a Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act of 2013 was introduced on April 16, 2013.
The 68-32 vote came after long debates and with a deal to boost the border security spending considerably. The Senate bill includes a path to citizenship for an estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants, billions in new funding for border security and a start-up visa for foreign entrepreneurs.
Even after passing the upper chamber bipartisan for almost a year now, House Speaker John Boehner has refused to bring the bill up for a vote and there is uncertainty for any advancement in the immigration reform measures before the end of the year.

Nearly 52,000 unaccompanied children-mostly from Central America have been taken into custody. This has turned out to be the largest invasion of refuge seekers into the US in recent times. The border crossing has nearly doubled from last year’s total and 10 times more since 2009.
The issue has mounted its tip forcing President Obama to call on Congress to get funding of nearly $3.7 billion to deal with the immigration crisis as part of an “emergency” package. The money would be distributed on additional Border Patrol work force, detention facilities and for child care during the deportation process.
A study by U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees has pointed out that nearly 58 percent of the unaccompanied children are forced to move to safer places, due to fear back home, as their home countries are being ravaged by gang violence and drug peddling. Many are influenced by the idea of reuniting with the family members in the US.
The Republicans point out at the President’s 2012 decision of bringing in the Dream Act, where young adults brought to the country illegally will not be deported. This has led to more illegal families expecting similar action.
The administration is doing a lot to meet the immigration catastrophe; can we see any clear path to immigration reform yet?
