  • President Obama’s Plan For Immigrant Actions Gets Cold Response
  • Many government lawyers worked hard last week to convince court judges to give permission to President Obama to go ahead with sweeping initiatives to protect immigrants in the country who have come in illegally. But the series of judges’ questions do not seem to make it very likely that the initiative programs undertaken by the President would start any time before the last months of his term, if at all.

A panel of judges of the Court of Appeals in the United States heard the arguments in a lawsuit by Texas and 25 other states; they challenged the executive actions of the President that would be giving temporary relaxations to over four million immigrants from deportation. What’s more, they would also be permitted to work. In February this year the programs were blocked by a federal district judge in the state of Texas. Two months later, the administration’s emergency request to cancel the order was denied by a panel of the Fifth Circuit.

Even more serious legal trouble was faced by the administration when it came to the Federal district judge of Texas. Officials of the government were criticized by him for failing to inform him that more than 100,000 deferrals with extended 3 year terms had been issued by them under the President’s programs to young immigrants. This was done before the injunction was imposed.

  • “Dreamers” Wages Increase Thanks To Obama’s Program
  • 13_JulyUndocumented youth who have been called DREAMERS have witnessed an average jump of about 45 percent in their salaries ever since President Obama granted them the authority, albeit temporarily to stay in the United States and work there, according to a recent report released.

DREAMERS were brought to the United States as children by their parents. Before the program they were earning an average of $11.92 – after the program started they are now earning $17.29, according to the report.

The report’s objective was to measure economic and educational effects of the DACA program, which has enabled nearly 0.6 million undocumented immigrants who came to the U S before they turned 16 to stay and work legally for at least 2 years, with the capability of renewal, if needed.

The report found that drivers licenses had been received by 89 percent of DACA recipients and the first car had been bought by 21 per cent of them. Plus more than 90 percent of those still in school said they had “pursued educational opportunities they previously could not.”

The survey found that 76 percent of DACA recipients were employed, while 20 percent were in school and not working. Forty-five percent were working and in school. Of those who were working, 69 percent said they had better pay after gaining coverage from the program and 54 percent said they had better working conditions.

The higher wages mean more tax revenue and economic growth, suggesting that the program benefits the economy, the researchers stated.

  • On The Issue Of Deporting Criminals Back To Their Homeland
  • 9_JulyIn the boiling issue over immigration reform in the country there is one point on which most people agree – it is that individuals with gross criminal records should be deported to their respective countries. But some agencies have stopped reporting criminal perpetration of illegal immigrants to the right authorities.

Earlier in the year officials in a state did not heed the request of ICE to at least notify it before releasing a hardened criminal, who had several conviction charges against him and had been deported back to his country 5 times. Instead he was allowed to go, and how, recently he has been charged of killing a woman fatally. The officials in ICE criticized the action of releasing the criminal rather than turning him over for deportation.

This dispute that is being openly broadcast in the public form brings to light the tension between local agencies and immigration officials. Many feel that it is inappropriate for local agencies to behave as immigration agents. Many people do not report crime or come forward as eyewitnesses simply because they are afraid of getting deported back.

Federal officials have to show law enforcement agencies that they are truly targeting high-priority offenders for deportation and that they are responsive to the concerns of those who must maintain community trust. But local authorities also should be willing to cooperate.

  • What The Applicant Should Expect At The Green Card Medical
  • The applicant’s passport or some other photo identification should be presented at the time of appointment for the Immigration Medical.

The applicant should also present to the Civil Surgeon the appointment letter.

The medical examination will include a complete body review, physical examination, chest X-ray and blood tests for syphilis. All this will be conducted by the USCIS-approved Civil Surgeon.

At the time of the examination the eyes, ears, nose and throat, extremities, heart, lungs, abdomen, lymph nodes, skin and external genital will be examined.

If the applicant is appearing for the Green Card Medical outside of the United States the results of the exam will be sent by the panel physician to the U S Embassy/Consulate directly. This is the routine followed in some countries. In some countries the applicant will be given the results in a sealed envelope and x-rays which have to taken for the interview.

Please note that the Immigration Medical is not a complete physical examination. Its purpose is to prove that the applicant is eligible for immigration to the United States. This examination is not a substitute for a complete physical examination, diagnosis, or treatment by a primary health care provider of the applicant
