  • NUMBER OF ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION ACROSS BORDERS DIPS; EXPECTED TO RISE IN SUMMER
  • 13-March

Sources say that the number of Central American children and families that illegally crossed the southern borders, especially across the Texan borders is likely to be smaller this year than last. Still, the number was large enough to make it difficult for shelters and courts across the country, statistics showed.

More than 12000 unaccompanied youths who were mostly from Central America were caught at the southern border during the first five months since October. This number has come down by almost 42% compared with the same time frame last year, according to the latest Border Patrol figures. More than 11000 family members were caught at the border during the same period, 21% fewer than the same period a year ago.

This means that it represents a 43% decrease in the number of unaccompanied children and a 23% in family members in this fiscal year. But even with the number of cases expected to decline this year the number of families crossing the border will be more than triple the number than in the year 2013, when more than 14000 people had illegally crossed the borders.

An immigration lawyer was quoted as saying that the decrease in the number of illegal immigrants from the country of Honduras must be because of the Obama government’s hastening of deportations and it’s advising the Honduran government to put a brake on illegal immigration from its country.

  • US CITIZENSHIP ACT CAUSING DISTRESS TO MANY ADOPTEES IN THE UNITED STATES
  • The Child Citizenship Act pertaining to a particular domain in the US immigration law has a loophole. The loophole could imply that thousands of adults adopted as children from other countries are in the US illegally.

The highlights of the Child Citizenship Act are:

    • Until the year 2001, when the law took effect, parents of all those countries who were adopted from other countries had to apply for citizenship for their children.
    • After the year 2001 the US government changed the immigration law, so that it only applied to those children born in the year 1983 and in the years after that.
    •  Advocates of the immigration reform state that deportations in this kind of cases are very rare. Still the loophole exists.
  • IMMIGRATION TO THE UNITED STATES: PREPARING FOR THE INTERVIEW
  • 19_1-March

If an applicant is preparing for immigration to the United States he or she is required to go through certain procedures. A petition has to be submitted to the immigration authorities. Once the petition is approved the priority date has to be checked. After this the processing at the National Visa Centre begins and the fees need to be paid for the same. One of the steps in the process is the Immigration Medical Examination that is carried out later.

After the necessary fees have been paid the required immigrant visa application along with the Affidavit of Support and the supporting documents to the National Visa Centre which will then be reviewed for completeness. Once the case becomes qualified for the interview the National Visa Centre will work with the appropriate US Embassy or Consulate where the appointment will next be scheduled.

    THE INTERVIEW

An interview appointment letter is sent to the applicant as well as to the petitioner as well as the applicant that will notify the applicant about the date, time and location of the interview. It has to be noted that a wait of several months for an interview date will become available.

An immigration medical examination has to be then carried out for the applicant.
